Week 7

During this week we had the opportunity to watch the video called 7 Habits and this is what I learned.  From the "7 Habits" talk, the habit that resonates most with me is "Be Proactive." This habit emphasizes taking charge of our own lives and decisions instead of simply reacting to circumstances. It encourages us to be self-starters and to actively shape our own futures. This idea of taking responsibility is powerful; it means I can choose how I respond to challenges, rather than letting them control me. By being proactive, I can set goals and take steps toward achieving them, which fills my life with a sense of purpose and direction. The seven habits as a whole offer a framework for living a more intentional life. They guide us in developing personal effectiveness and building strong relationships, which is crucial for achieving both private and public victories. When we master the first three habits—being proactive, beginning with the end in mind, and putting fir...

Week 6

This week I was able to learn quite a bit about how we should set up entrepreneurial rules so that we are not over taken by our start ups.  I found myself reflecting on two talks from class this week that really stuck with me. One was by President N. Eldon Tanner called "Success is Gauged by Self-Mastery". President Tanner talks about self-mastery and the importance of self discipline, moral standards are essential for anyone trying to achieve their goals. The idea that trye success is rooted in our ability to control our impulses and stay true to our values is a reminder that personal integrity is important in all aspects of life. He quotes philosophers like Plato and da Vinci, mastering ones self is the first step toward mastering any external challenges. This week I have been trying to apply this principle by setting clear goals for myself, whether in my studies or in my personal success. Staying committed to them despite any distractions.  And the other talk was give...

Week 5

During this weeks study we watched to videos of talks given, one called, "A Hero's Journey" and the other "How Do You Find Your Passion and How Do You Pursue It?".  From the first talk, I learned about the significance of embracing one’s unique mission in life, which the speaker believes is essential for true success. The idea that a hero’s journey is both about personal growth and service to others resonated with me. The talk suggests that while individual achievements matter, the ultimate fulfillment comes from contributing to the world. The speaker emphasizes the importance of finding your calling by identifying your unique gifts and aligning them with the needs of society. This requires not only self-reflection but also a willingness to ask for feedback from those around you. This advice to interview role models has shown me how valuable insights can come from others. The speaker also addresses the importance of boundaries, suggesting that establishing ...

Week 4

This week in class I was able to learn a lot, here are some things that stood out to me... This week I learn about the importance of focusing on the "little things" in life, which are often overlooked but hold significant value for our personal growth, relationships, and spiritual well-being. Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin highlights that our lives are constructed from small, daily actions that contribute to our ultimate success, particularly in our relationships with ourselves, others, and God. He suggests that by managing our time effectively and attending to these small details like maintaining good health, practicing kindness, and serving others we can build a strong foundation for a fulfilling life. From Jim Ritchie's talk, I learned about the importance of having a clear structure for achieving success. His "tri-quation" concept shows how self-esteem, productivity, and control are connected. When we feel good about ourselves, we tend to be more productive and ha...

Week 3

This week in class we watched a video of a presentation by Frank Levinson called "Top 10 Things You Must Have to Start a Business"  This video offers valuable insights for anyone looking to launch and start up a new business. One of the most compelling points Levinson makes is about the importance of focusing on customers and sales, which I found particularly exciting. Levinson emphasizes that having real customers, those who actually place orders and send payment, is what defines a successful business. This idea sat with me because it highlights a straightforward yet often overlooked truth: without customers, a business cannot survive. I also appreciated his perspective on finances. Levinson suggests that having too little money can drive innovation, encouraging new businesses to think creatively rather than just spending to solve problems. This notion is counter to the common belief that funding is necessary for success. The analogy he makes about needing “coconuts” instead...
