Week 14

Over the course of this semester through the readings and videos I learned valuable lessons about entrepreneurship and personal growth. One of the key things I learned is that success as an entrepreneur requires dedication and resilience. It’s not easy to build a business, and setbacks are inevitable, but staying committed and keeping a positive mindset is essential for overcoming challenges. I also learned that mentorship plays a crucial role in an entrepreneur’s journey. Having a mentor to guide you, share their experiences, and offer advice can make a big difference in navigating the ups and downs of starting a business. Another important lesson is the value of passion. When you are passionate about what you do, it makes it easier to stay motivated and push through difficult times. Passion also helps you align your work with your personal values, making the journey more fulfilling. I also realized that entrepreneurship doesn’t have a one-size-fits-all path. Each entrepreneur’s journ...

Week 13

From the readings This week, I’ve delved deeper into the world of entrepreneurship, and it has been an eye opening experience. Watching videos of successful entrepreneurs sharing their journeys was truly inspiring. It's amazing to see how individuals, armed with passion and perseverance, can turn their dreams into reality. One key takeaway from these experiences is the unwavering dedication required to succeed as an entrepreneur. It's clear that building a business isn't a walk in the park. It demands immense hard work, unwavering determination, and a resilient mindset. Even when faced with setbacks and challenges, it's essential to maintain a positive outlook and keep pushing forward. Another valuable lesson I've learned is the significance of mentorship. Having a seasoned mentor to guide and support you can be invaluable. A mentor can offer advice, share their experiences, and provide much-needed encouragement. It's also crucial to find work that aligns with y...

Week 12

This week we read a article "What's a Business For?" and here are a few of my thoughts... Virtue and integrity are crucial to an economy because they ensure trust and reliability in the market. When people trust that businesses will act honestly and ethically, they are more likely to invest in them, buy from them, and engage in long-term economic relationships. However, if businesses prioritize personal gain over honesty, as seen in the scandals involving U.S. companies, it can lead to a breakdown of trust. This loss of trust can cause the economy to falter, as people stop investing, and the value of businesses drops. The market relies on clear rules and truthful practices to function effectively, and without these, it becomes unstable and less reliable. Therefore, integrity within business leaders and companies is essential for the stability of the economy. According to Charles Handy, the “real justification” for the existence of businesses is not just to make a profit ...

Week 11

This week we learned about "Measuring the cost". I’ve learned that achieving a balance between life and career is a dynamic and ongoing process, not a fixed destination. The speakers, Ann Miura-Ko and Randy Komisar, share insights that highlight the importance of setting priorities, understanding trade-offs, and aligning your work with what you truly value. Ann emphasizes that entrepreneurship, especially at the early stages, often requires sacrifices, but it’s important to be deeply passionate and believe in the purpose of the work. Similarly, Randy stresses the importance of making conscious decisions about what matters most in life, acknowledging that the balance between money, family, and personal fulfillment is always shifting. He explains that while it’s possible to achieve financial success, it often comes at the cost of other things you love, and at some point, you may have to trade financial gain for personal happiness and fulfillment. This has made me reflect on my ...

week 10

This week we learned about dreaming big dreams, understanding what we want from life and how we can best achieve our big dreams. I learned from the video "Your Emotional Fingerprint" and Elder Dallin H. Oaks' talk "The Challenge to Become," I’ve learned a lot about personal growth and self-awareness. The idea of the "Emotional Fingerprint" teaches us that each of us has a unique set of emotions and traits that drive our decisions, actions, and feelings. By understanding these traits, we can become more in control of our lives and make better choices, rather than reacting automatically to situations. For example, the Cherokee story about the two wolves teaches that the "wolf" we choose to feed whether it's the good one filled with love, kindness, and hope, or the evil one filled with anger, jealousy, and fear grows stronger in our lives. This is a powerful reminder that we have the ability to choose how we respond to life and what kind of ...

Week 9

This week we have learned what great aspects we should acquire to become a great leader. The videos and readings from this week's lesson have taught me valuable lessons on trust, ethics, and leadership, all of which are key to personal and professional success. We watched a video, featuring Guy Kawasaki, emphasizes the importance of trust in building relationships. Kawasaki explains that trust begins with giving trust to others first. He highlights examples like Amazon, Zappos, and Nordstrom, which build trust by offering customer-friendly policies. For instance, Zappos' free return shipping policy demonstrates trust in their customers. Kawasaki also shares a mindset shift between "bakers" and "eaters." Bakers, who focus on creating opportunities for others, are trustworthy people, while eaters are more selfish and zero-sum in their thinking. The key takeaway is that trustworthiness comes from a selfless attitude of helping others, rather than always expecti...

Week 8

During this week in class I had the opportunity to reflect on some powerful messages from different sources, and they all left me thinking deeply about personal growth, perseverance, and leadership. One of the most impactful talks I encountered was from President Thomas S. Monson, who spoke about humility, perseverance, and the importance of continually doing God’s work. He shared personal stories from his own family’s history, highlighting their unwavering faith in the face of hardship, which reminded me of the importance of staying steadfast in our beliefs, even when life is challenging. The emphasis on "moving forward" and not giving up, despite obstacles, strongly resonated with me. His words about feeling the Lord's guidance and the strength that comes from relying on God reinforced my own belief that through faith and diligence, we can achieve great things. In addition to President Monson’s talk, I watched a video about "You Can Do Anything," which tied in...
