week 10

This week we learned about dreaming big dreams, understanding what we want from life and how we can best achieve our big dreams. I learned from the video "Your Emotional Fingerprint" and Elder Dallin H. Oaks' talk "The Challenge to Become," I’ve learned a lot about personal growth and self-awareness. The idea of the "Emotional Fingerprint" teaches us that each of us has a unique set of emotions and traits that drive our decisions, actions, and feelings. By understanding these traits, we can become more in control of our lives and make better choices, rather than reacting automatically to situations. For example, the Cherokee story about the two wolves teaches that the "wolf" we choose to feed whether it's the good one filled with love, kindness, and hope, or the evil one filled with anger, jealousy, and fear grows stronger in our lives. This is a powerful reminder that we have the ability to choose how we respond to life and what kind of person we want to become.

Elder Oaks’ talk focuses on a similar theme, but from a spiritual perspective. He emphasizes that the gospel of Jesus Christ is not just about knowing what is right; it is about becoming something better. He explains that it’s not enough to have a testimony of the gospel; we must let it change us from the inside out. Just knowing what is right isn't enough; we need to act on it and allow our hearts to be converted to truly live out those principles.

I see how both of these teachings connect: understanding our emotional fingerprint helps us recognize what drives us, while the gospel challenges us to become better versions of ourselves through that self-awareness. In my daily life, this means paying more attention to how my emotions affect my choices and trying to feed the good wolf inside of me. It also means striving to be more than just someone who knows the right things to do, but actually becoming a person who lives those principles consistently.

I look forward to learning more about myself as I try to understand my emotional triggers and how I can make better decisions. I’m excited to continue my personal growth, to become more kind, patient, and understanding in my interactions with others. Through this, I believe I will be better able to fulfill my potential and help those around me do the same.
