Week 3
This week in class we watched a video of a presentation by Frank Levinson called "Top 10 Things You Must Have to Start a Business"
This video offers valuable insights for anyone looking to launch and start up a new business. One of the most compelling points Levinson makes is about the importance of focusing on customers and sales, which I found particularly exciting. Levinson emphasizes that having real customers, those who actually place orders and send payment, is what defines a successful business. This idea sat with me because it highlights a straightforward yet often overlooked truth: without customers, a business cannot survive.
I also appreciated his perspective on finances. Levinson suggests that having too little money can drive innovation, encouraging new businesses to think creatively rather than just spending to solve problems. This notion is counter to the common belief that funding is necessary for success. The analogy he makes about needing “coconuts” instead of horses in Monty Python illustrates how resource constraints can push teams to innovate. This idea is inspiring because it encourages entrepreneurs to work with what they have and find unique solutions. Levinson talks about furniture being comfortable and cheap, it’s refreshing to hear that creating a welcoming environment doesn’t require lavish spending. Instead, it’s about comfort, reflecting a focus on what truly matters for a new business
Moreover, his point about having a great partner is something I’m eager to explore. Finding someone who complements your skills can make a huge difference in navigating the challenges of a startup. This idea reinforces the importance of collaboration and trust in business. Overall, I look forward to diving deeper into these concepts and experiencing the realities of entrepreneurship. The balance between resourcefulness, customer focus, and partnership is something I believe can lead to meaningful and sustainable success in any business venture.
